Réinventer le pinceau à maquillage : mission possible

Reinventing the makeup brush: mission possible

Did you know that makeup brushes are based on the same concept as watercolor brushes? While cosmetic sponges have seen various variations and improvements over time (I'm thinking of you, famous Beauty Blender!), Brushes have kept the same format for centuries ...

... Until the arrival of Artis Brushes a few years ago. These brushes, which are more like brushes, were quite intriguing, but a little too bold for my liking to spend my precious pennies trying them out. Then, this fall, the Quebec company Elle R Cosmétiques finally released its accessible and affordable version in pharmacies: the Looky Brush. So I jumped at the chance!

Using these brushes takes a bit of adaptation, I agree. Normally, I hold my brushes like a pencil, so perpendicular to my face. With the brushes, I have to make movements parallel to my face. I had to do some tests in order to get to grips with the handling of these brushes, especially the smaller ones, which are elongated in shape.

Most

The brushes are very dense, they contain a lot of bristles, and they are soooo soft! Thus, they retain a lot of product, and the application is more uniform. The Looky Brushes are perfect for blending makeup and almost give an "airbrushed" look.

These brushes work great with skin tone, contour, and concealer products. I like to keep a small, clean brush to blend in my eye shadow or blend in my highlighter and blush.

With these brushes I can use both liquid cosmetics and creams as well as powder cosmetics.

The lessers

These brushes hold a lot of product, so they absorb a lot of it, especially with liquid makeup. But this is the price to pay for uniform application!

With the density of the bristles, it is even more important to thoroughly wash the brushes so that bacteria do not develop. Especially if you are using liquid products! This involves cleaning them at least once a week, or even more.

How to use the Looky Brush?

Elle R suggests different applications for each brush, but it is important to adapt them to our face. For example, some brushes are too small to apply the blush for my taste, but perfect for the contour!

I take the biggest brushes for my foundation, my concealer, my contour, my illuminator, and for blending it all together.

The two thin brushes are more complex to use. They are suggested for eye shadow, but I don't see how this is possible. Instead, I use them with creamy or liquid products. I can do my eyeliner, or rework more precisely with concealer when I want a lipstick or a well-defined cut crease.
